Oscar Recap

Oscars Whew what an amazing night, it truly is one of my favorite nights of the year. The montage in the beginning set to “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from the Social Network was AMAZING. It clearly lacked some more photos from 127 hours, Winters Bone and Toy Story 3 but still it was a great montage. (If you’re interested in seeing it, it’s up on the oscars.com web site under highlights). If you would like to hear the amazing Music from newly crowned Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross here is the link to the song.

My personal favorite for best score was Inception by Hans Zimmer but I was super excited to see these guys win the score was fantastic.

The Beginning film with Anne and James in Alec Baldwin’s mind was also very funny; the highlight would be the dance of the brown duck. This is also available to see on the Oscars.com web site. Anne looked amazing throughout the whole evening and was really doing a good job of keeping up the flow and mood of the show I felt it moved along quickly and was not bogged down too much. James on the other hand was no prize he was not on top of his form and just relied on his smile, which can get him far just does not make great TV. Over all I liked the telecast but I don’t think they will be asked back next year.

Best Moments
1: Natalie Winning Best Actress, she is absolutely amazing and I have loved her ever since I was like 11. It was great to see her win and her acceptance speech was great as well.

2: God of love winning best short film, the young man who won was a complete joy and super funny.

3: Kirk Douglass was hysterical and really showed that even though he has had a stroke he is still smart and funny.

4: Celine Dion singing, she has an amazing voice and it’s always nice to hear her sing.

5: Christian Bale starting to cry when he was giving his acceptance speech.

Worst Moments

1: Kings Speech winning Best picture, should have been The Social Network or Black Swan

2: Tom Hooper winning best director instead if David Fincher

3: The Gurffalo losing best animated short to “The Lost thing”

4: James Franco

5: even though I loved the actual montage the one in the end was a bit biased towards the king’s speech. Still awesome montage just a bit sided.

Best Dressed
1: Haliee Stienfield – she was super cute and looked so nice, plus it was nice to see someone who is truly just happy to be there.

2: Anne Hathaway -She changed a thousand times but was so beautiful in all her dresses my favorite was the blue and the one with the fringe.

3: Hillary Swank – was super pretty in this feathery dress

4: Jennifer Hudson – looks awesome she lost so much weight and truly looked amazing.

5: Michelle Williams- Looked so pretty is this sparkly dress, I like the sparkles ahahahha

1: Nicole Kidman – what is wrong with her dress? Its weird and I don’t like it at all.

2: Annette Benning – she looks like she is seventy five in that dress its horrible

3: Kathryn Bigelow – were the awards in the arctic?

4: Scarlett Johansen – it’s a giant purple doily

Black Swan

Just saw Black swan over Christmas break and it was brilliant, I can’t explain to you how amazing this film is.

If you are a lover of film then this film is a must see. This is the fifth film by Daren Arnofsky his previous are Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain and The Wrestler. Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis , Vincent Cassel , Winona Rider and Barbra Hershey all deliver standout performances . Natalie plays a ballerina who strives for perfection; Vincent is the head of the company. Mila and Winona play a New and old Ballerina (respectively) and Hershey plays Natalie’s overbearing stage mother.

The entire film revolves around Natalies accent to perfection or decent to Mental instability .She has been given the main part in the production of Swan Lake. She feels threatened by the new dancer Mila Because she has much more raw sensuality. Nina Is the prefect White Swan but needs to work on her emotions so she will be able to preforms the role of the Black Swan. Her mother is extremely psychotic and overbearing, feeding into Natalie’s paranoia. Her mother looks at Ninas Career as a reinvention of her own, she prefectly embodies all of those crazy sterotypes that obsessive parents display. Vincent plays the head of the company with such creepiness; he is such a ass and takes advantage of these young impressionable women. He quielty uses the Alure of sexuality to seduce these young women into submission. Winona has a few amazing scenes where she plays a hardened older ballerina who is replaced by Natalie in the beginning of the film. Winona is truly Amazing in this film she is not in it very much but you wont soon forget her bitterness .

I am not going to tell you anything about the movie but it is breathtakingly beautiful. Arnofsky is a brilliant filmmaker and this is his magnum opus, he does a brilliant job of making us feel Natalie’s pain. From the Cinematography, art direction, costumes and score the whole film is top notch. For anyone who loves movies this is one that will blow your mind.

A fun little side note I found out that for all the noises in the film ( toilet flushing, horn honking) Darren used variations of a Swans Bark . Super COOL
